Who Can Get a Card?
PINES library cards are free to all residents of Georgia, including those who live in areas of the state served by a library that does not participate in the PINES network. People who attend school, own property, or are employed in Georgia but who live out-of state are also eligible for a free PINES card. Most PINES cards are valid for two (2) years from date of application.
Library Cards for Kids
There is no minimum age for a child to receive a PINES card. A parent or legal guardian must register for his or her child, if the child is under 18 years of age. The parent or legal guardian needs to show his or her own proper identification to register a child, and he or she must sign the child’s application. A child’s parent or guardian is responsible for materials borrowed by his or her child.
Out of State Applicants
Georgia property owners who do not reside in the state may be required to show proof of ownership such as a tax bill or deed. Persons employed in Georgia or attending school in Georgia but who live out-of-state may be required to show proof of employment or enrollment. Out-of-state cards are available for an annual fee of $25.00.
Apply in Person
Library card applicants need to come to any one of our libraries and complete and sign an application form. Identification must be presented to register for a library card. There are three possible combinations of identification possible in order to get a library card:
Photo ID (such as valid driver’s license) showing current local address.
Photo ID that does not have current address plus an item from the list below that does show the current local address.
Two items from the list below that both show the same, current, local address.
Examples of acceptable ID for options 2 and 3 include:
- A current, valid driver’s license
- A current, valid voter registration card
- A valid matricula consular (2004.08)
- A check with a pre-printed address
- A utility bill, tax receipt, or lease, or other piece of mail that shows the user’s name and current address.
Library card applications are not accepted during the last 15 minutes of each work day, so please be sure to sign up for your card early!
Georgia residents can apply for a PINES library card online. Visit the PINES website and complete the online form. Remember to choose the appropriate Clayton County library branch as your home library. Your account will not be completely activated until you present proof of residency in person at the library.
